Hollis Local Development Corporation’s board members, residents and volunteers, in partnership with the NYC Parks Department, are diligently working to improve the quality of Hollis Avenue and the community. HLDC created Hollis Beautification. This committee was originally headed by Ethel Gaines and performed many beautification projects along Hollis Avenue. Over the past years, HLDC held cleanups, put flower containers in front of stores and performed Mother’s Day flower planting. Each Spring the blossoming trees along Hollis Avenue also illustrate the results of our efforts. HLDC also named a green space on Hollis and 104th Avenues in honor of our founder, Gladys Warren. This area known as the Gladys Warren Triangle has a tree in the center of the lot which was planted in her memory. The Gladys’ Green Crew of Hollis has planted flowers and shrubbery in the Hollis Playground and continues to provide cleanups at the Triangle.
